This case study was originally an internal project within We Are Perspective, managed by Marjorie Broudieu as a service design intern. The brief was to ideate around 'connected bicycles'. I've stepped in to lead the user experience and visual design part. Trying to seamlessly merged the hardware and software experience until the first working prototype and app development.
How might we bring an intuitive service that enhances the cycling experience by providing a heads-up navigation system for bicycles?
To investigate potential solutions, we met different stakeholders on the field (tourists, locals, business owners, social entrepreneurs) that provide us insights on where to focus. Using a phone while cycling (possibly under the rain) creates potential for accident and is inconvenient.
Tourists (and even some locals) pointed out that they want their Amsterdam experience to be explorative; to go off the beaten track while making sure they do not miss any important point of interest. While existing applications like Google Maps are efficient at searching locations and getting from A to B, they do not fit the exploratory nature of cycling as it leaves no freedom for spontaneous decisions.

"I just simply can not explore the city and look at my direction on my phone at the same time."

The app allows users to browse curated point of interests (POI) divided by themes. The POI can displayed by distance, by theme or by popularity. Tapping on POI allows to access extra information. Once a POI is spotted, it can be saved in the favourite section for later or it can be sent to the Pulse handlebars for the user to be guided. POI can display in single places or in tours. Tours allows to access various POI on a specific theme in a location-coherent way. The user experience needs to be easy-to-use and personal.
